Week of 3/13

It seems that times continues to fly by! It’s hard to believe we are already midway through the month of March.

A few reminders:

This month on 3/23  we will be going on a CBI trip to the avenues . While there we will also be eating lunch at chilis. You and your child  can look at the menu on https://www.chilis.com/  and review what they might like to order. Please send him the appropriate amount of money based on their selections. Students will order and pay for their meal themselves.

Next month on 4/26 we will be participating in a county wide field day. Students will be able to participate in a variety of outdoor activities and stations set up by students at Kennesaw Mountain High School.

Lovinggood’s Olympic field day will be held an 5/18.

 

Reading: The Watson’s go to Birmingham , News2you, Individual Reading Groups

Writing: Descriptive writing, Facts vs opinions, and recipe reviews

Math: Fact Practice,  Geometry: Congruent Shapes and Transformations

Science: Human Body: Circulatory, Respiratory, and Nervous System.

Social Studies: Civil Rights and Women’s History

Welcome Back! I hope everyone had a wonderful break! Here are a few pictures from our recent field trip to  the dance! It was huge hit and everyone enjoyed themselves! They danced the morning away and were all smiles!

Reading: News2you, A Mighty Long Way, Reading Groups

Great CBI

 

We had  a great CBI trip to the bowling alley! All the students did such a great job! When we  got got back we helped mark out the bar codes and write expiration dates on the Food Drive cans!

Week of January 22

Time seems to be flying!

Reading: We will be reading the story the Red Badge of Courage and working in our reading groups

Writing: Persuasive writing- we we will be working on writing persuasive paragraphs and responding to picture prompts

Math: Identifying Key words in Math Problems,  Writing and solving equations, Money problems

Science: Water Cycle/Water Cycle Experiments

Social Studies: Civil War

Community Connection Resource Fair

On Monday January 30th from 6:30-8:30 there will be a Community Connection Resource Fair at Dodgen Middle School. Organizations from all over GA including Focus, Autism Improvised, Horizons League, BLAZE Sports ans more will be  in attendance to provide information on things like social groups, summer camps, adapted sports and more.

Please see attached for more information. If you are unable to attend but would like information on specific programs please let me know.

Community-Connections-Flyer

Welcome Back and Happy New Year

Welcome Back!

I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing break. I had a great time visiting with Family and Friends and am excited to jump into the New Year! We have quite a few important dates coming up.

January 16th: MLK No School

January 26th: Bowling CBI : Cost 5:99. Letter will go home with more information.

January 30th: Friendship Club After School 4:15-5:30. We will be playing a life size version of Candy Land!

February 13th: Field trip Kennesaw Mountain High School Dance

Connections: This 9 weeks we will return to Art/FACS for our connections classes

Teacher Absence: 1/6/2017. Progress reports will go home Monday 1/9.

 

CBI/Christmas Party

We had a great CBI trip to Target and Chickfila today! All of the students did a wonderful job picking out gifts for their secret Santa! We will be exchanging gifts Tuesday at  our class Christmas Party. For our Christmas Party, we  are in need of Paper Plates, Napkins, Cups, and silverware.  Please send in one of these items if you are able.

Thank you all for sharing your students with me! As I reflect on this Christmas  season, teaching them is truly the greatest gift I could ever receive.

Welcome Back

Welcome back!

I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing thanksgiving break. We are ready to jump back in to school before thanksgiving break.

We are diving in with these last few weeks before Christmas Break.

 

This weak we are continuing to read Little House  on the Prairie. They have made it to the west and and are settling in! We are also continuing our guided reading groups. In math, we are studying Dot Plots, Word problems, and reviewing our basic facts. We are working on constructing sentences, identifying nouns/verbs, and using correct verb tenses . We are also working on paragraph writing with picture prompts. In science in social studies we are diving deeper into the phases of the moon and Australia. We are learning about the landforms and the culture.

Our next friendship club meeting will be Next Monday 12/5. Look for permission slips to go home. This time we will be doing  a series of winter activity stations.

Our January meeting will be January 30th  and we will be playing a life size version of Candyland between 4 rooms ( each room with a theme)

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope you and your family have a great thanksgiving break! The students have been talking about all the fun things they have planned.

Today, They had a fun speech lesson and had to earn parts of a turkey snack by rolling a giant dice and answering speech questions.They had great engagement!

This week we started reading Little House on the Prairie,  and studying the Phases of the Moon, and Australia.

Don’t forget its early release week this week! Student’s will dismiss 2 hours early!

 

Academic Focus’s:

Reading:We will continue are study of charlie and the chocolate factory and our small group reading rotations.

Writing: Expository Writing. This week we will make sensory bottles and recording the steps we took

Math: We will continue real life word problems, and areas of figures, and money

Science: This week we will continue to  study and compare different biomes. We will also be doing a science experiment recording data on the best surfaces for racing marbles.
